Jellis claimed the top goal gong with the outstanding effort from range against the Mariners in high-flying Walsall's excellent 4-1 win at Blundell Park.

The 23-year-old midfielder's screamer was a crucial second goal for Mat Sadler's side in what proved a statement victory. It is one of several standout moments in a breakthrough campaign for Jellis, who moved to the Bescot Stadium from National League North outfit Tamworth in January.

Jellis won the award after a selection from EFL pundit experts Don Goodman and David Prutton and a public vote.

“It’s a really proud moment for me," said the Saddlers midfielder. "It’s great to get recognised for the strike and it was a good result in the end so I’m buzzing with that and to make memories for myself and my family. Thank you to everyone who voted for me, I really appreciate it.”

Jellis is up to five goals already this season and four, including the stunner against Grimsby, came in his last nine games.

The Walsall man claimed the award ahead of Port Vale’s Antwoine Hackford, Bradford City’s Jack Shepherd and AFC Wimbledon’s James Tilley.

The Saddlers are not in action this weekend as their home League Two clash against Gillingham was postponed due to international call-ups. Club captain Donervon Daniels was on target for Montserrat on Thursday night as the defender's nation slipped to a 2-1 home defeat to Saint Vincent and Grenadines in the Concacaf Nations League.

Meanwhile, Walsall were handed another 500 tickets for the anticipated clash at Port Vale on December 7. The Saddlers faithful snapped up the initial allocation of 2,026 some three weeks before the fixture, with just north of 300 now left up for grabs.
