Walsall captain Donervon Daniels has "learned" from his spell out of the team
Walsall captain Donervon Daniels insists his recent spell out of the team has served as an important "learning period".
Daniels made his first competitive start of the season after Harry Williams was ruled out of Walsall's 1-1 draw against Crewe Alexandra at Bescot on Saturday due to concussion.
The 31-year-old missed the first seven games with a knee injury but has been available since the end of September.
Daniels has had to bide his time with Mat Sadler naming the same back-three for the past eight league games prior to the weekend.
Nathan Lowe scored a late equaliser five minutes from time to cancel out Omar Bogle's 66th-minute opener as Walsall stayed second in League Two.
And Daniels, who came off the bench against Bolton Wanderers in the FA Cup, was delighted to be back in action.
He said: "I feel like this period has been a real good learning period for myself. As an individual to still encourage the boys, help motivate them and support them in any way I can but also keeping myself ready and mentally sharp.
"I can't say I've loved it but I've learned from it and I've grown through it. I've had to show real patience and I'm just happy to be out there today to help the team and I just want to continue to do that.
"It was a high energy and high concentration game. For me personally I enjoyed being out there. That's where I get my passion, my love and that's where I do my best stuff."
