O'Neil came into the Southampton game needing a first win of the season with his position potentially under threat and a 2-0 victory will be a relief to both the head coach and club.

The players have remained behind O'Neil this season and after picking up three points, talisman Cunha insists the dressing room is backing the boss.

"I don't think the point was whether the players were with him, but football is like life and everyone thinks about the results," Cunha said.

"If the results are not there, of course everyone will be under pressure.

"But he always has the group around him, the players love him a lot.

"He was the perfect person to bring me back to this level and I only have good words for him.

"When you don't win the pressure comes but we understand it and this win gives us more time to breathe.

"It was a long journey and we always try our best to show everyone we are prepared to win.
