The Clarets lost for just the second time in the Championship this season and the first occasion since August with Sunday's 1-0 defeat at Millwall.
Scott Parker's side, relegated from the Premier League last term under Vincent Kompany, had put together a run of nine games without a loss before their reverse at The Den.
Burnley won four times and drew five matches in that spell to put themselves firmly among the early play-off picture but disappointment in the capital, with just a sixth goal conceded in 13 games, checked progress somewhat for Parker's injury-hit squad.
Like at The Hawthorns, Burnley's summer was a busy one as Parker underwent a rebuild following relegation and the departure of Kompany to Bayern Munich.
French centre-back Maxime Esteve's loan from Montpellier became permanent in a deal reportedly worth around £10million. Belgium international winger Mike Tresor also checked in following a loan from Gent but is yet to feature this term due to injury.
Brazilian left-back Lucas Pires cost £2m from Santos before a £3.4m switch for Benin international striker Andreas Hountondji from Caen in France.
More familiar English football experience arrived in the form of Vaclav Hladky, Joe Worrall, Hannibal Mejbri, Josh Laurent and John Egan.
Departing Turf Moor were big sales including ex-Baggie Dara O'Shea to Ipswich, as well as Arijanet Muric (Ipswich), Wilson Odobert (Tottenham), Sander Berge (Fulham), Scott Twine (Bristol City) and Vitinho (Botafogo).
Influential attacker Zian Flemming, on loan from Millwall, is back available after sitting out against his parent club while a lengthy injury list includes Tresor, Jordan Beyer, Hjalmar Ekdal, Worrall, Hannes Delcroix, Aaron Ramsey, Manuel Benson, Nathan Redmon and Lyle Foster, many of whom are long-term absentees.
