Wolves Women hat-trick hero Tammi George hailed as key leader after FA Cup rout

Wolves Women boss Dan McNamara believes Tammi George is developing into a key leader after her hat-trick in their 7-1 victory over Asfordby Amateurs in the FA Cup first round.

George opened the scoring in the eighth minute and added two more strikes either side of the break to complete her treble inside 51 minutes. 

Rachael Quigley also bagged a brace while goals from Beth Merrick and Abi Loydon capped a comfortable win. 

"You saw a different side of Tammi today. A side that not all of us see - a leader," McNamara noted. 

"I think she led from the midfield and really drove the girls on and drove the standards. She was rightly rewarded with the hat-trick and I am delighted for her. 

"She has started the season the same as she did last year. The consistency has always been the thing with Tammi and she is proving now that she has developed into a superb player."

Wolves will host Sporting Khalsa in the next round after they secured progression with a 5-0 thumping of Notts County as Layla Kennerley, Hannah Sparkes, Emily Brett, Macy Winters and Annabel Davies all got on the score sheet.

Albion also booked their place in the next round with a comprehensive 7-1 demolition of Knowle. Maz Mahmood and Rhianne Oakley bagged brace while Phoebe Warner, Simran Jhanat and Ellie May rounded off the scoring.

Meanwhile, Stourbridge are safely through to the second round after easing to a 5-1 win over Telford United. Rosie Axten scored twice and goals from Daisy Clements, Tilly Fantom and Rosie Embley completed the scoring.

Kidderminster Harriers reached the second round for the first time in their history after goals from Mill Rogers, Eloise Gallagher and Bethany Gallagher inspired them to a 3-1 win over Port Vale.

The Baggies will play host to Worcester City and Stourbridge will travel to local rivals Kidderminster Harriers in the second round.

Hednesford Town bowed out of the FA Cup following a 5-0 defeat at Stoke City.

Villa's winless start in the Women's Super League continued after they fell to a second defeat on the spin with a 2-1 home loss against Liverpool. 

Taylor Hinds' first half double propelled Liverpool into a two-goal lead at the break before Gabi Nunes halved the deficit for Villa four minutes after the restart. 

WSL2 leaders Birmingham City saw their three-match winning streak come to an end after falling to a 2-0 home defeat against Newcastle United with goals in either half from Shania Hayles and Isabella Sibley. 

Lye Town climbed into third spot in the West Midlands Premier Division with a 4-1 victory thanks to goals from Sian Johnson, Chloe Handy, Ruth Graham and Joella Bate. 

Mia Fellows scored the only goal in Walsall's 1-0 win at Newcastle Town in Division One North while Katie Robinson and Sydney Harris netted for Halesowen in their 2-1 win at Redditch United in Division One South.

Elsewhere, Walsall Wood beat Tamworth 4-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in the Division One Cup and Lichfield City's home fixture against Eccleshall was cancelled.
