The Pitmen, who remain the lowest ranked side in the competition, are seeking to reach the second round for the first time in more than 25 years.

King has led Hednesford through each stage of the FA Cup and to the first round for the first time in 11 years.

However, despite their cup success, the Pitmen have today announced the manager’s departure after a underwhelming start to the Northern One West season.

Hednesford sit 16th in the standings, having won once in their last seven league games and returned 16 points from league 11 matches so far this season.

Sitting 14 points from top spot, a club statement on Thursday said: “Following a breakdown in the relationship between first team manager Steve King and the board of the club, Steve’s contract has been terminated with immediate effect.

“An interim management team, featuring Martin Hunter - whose coaching background includes Southampton, Bradford, Norwich, and Watford - alongside Junior Lewis and head of youth development Andy Turner, will oversee first-team responsibilities until further notice.

“The club’s priority is to uphold its principles of integrity and professionalism in all matters.”
