Poll results: Fans want to play to a proper finish
A big majority of West Midlands football fans want football chiefs to complete the Premier League and EFL seasons, according to an Express & Star poll.
More than 2,100 fans voted in just over 24 hours on our website, and results showed a majority of almost two-to-one wanted the Premier League and Championship to be completed – even it means playing behind closed doors.
The results showed 62 per cent wanted the top two tiers to resume, with 33 per cent wanting to void the current campaign and five per cent unsure.
However, the results were much closer regarding Leagues One and Two where 53 per cent wanted them played to a conclusion, with 40 per cent wanting to cancel the season.
However, fans were split on whether promotion and relegation should take place if the current season was to be cancelled.
For the Premier League and Championship, 49 per cent wanted promotion and relegation with 48 per cent against and three per cent unsure.
For Leagues One and Two, 50 per cent said there should be no promotion and relegation if the season is ended, with 44 per cent saying teams should still go up or down.
Interestingly, a big majority said clubs should recompense current season ticket holders by discounting season tickets for next season, if the current campaign is cancelled or played behind closed doors.
Some 65 per cent backed discounts on 2020-21 season tickets, compared to 24 per cent who wanted cash to be reimbursed and three per cent who wanted club vouchers.
Eight per cent of those who voted said clubs should keep the cash to help them see out the crisis.
