This game, played between fans and former players, was part of annual match held to raise money for Walsall Football Supporters' Trust.

The Legends team won 10-1, meaning the fans are yet to claim a victory in the past seven years since the games have been played.

But the action was all for a good cause. Trust secretary Steve Davies said: "It was an expected win for the legends. They won like they do every year.

"I had the score at 9-1 but the referee said it was 10-1. But I can't locate where that other goal came from.

"They might be retired but they don't lose that competitive edge to win.

"The match was great. The cash raised will go towards the trust. Obviously we have got running costs."

Gabor Bukran, Dickie Gardener, Darren Byfield and Tony Barras were among the former players that graced the pitch at Rushall Olympic for the legends' side.

This year marked a first, as the game featured two former international players.

Walsall's current goalkeeping coach Maik Taylor, a former Northern Ireland international, played between the sticks while Bukran, a former Hungarian international, played in midfield.

It proved an extra special experience for Bukran as he does not get the recognition of his career back home.

Mr Davies continued: "Our players from England get adored by the fans, but the foreign players don't get that at home.

"Bukran stopped for the weekend and watched the game (against Mansfield) on Saturday. He was like an ordinary fan and take photographs all around the crowd.

"I am sending him all the photographs published on social media."

The trust, which donates money to charitable causes such as homeless people in Walsall, is still counting the proceeds from the game.

But Mr Davies said more than £500 has been raised.
