Kadeer Ali’s men took over at the summit after a 75-run victory at North Mymms – after title rivals Suffolk suffered a heavy defeat against Lincolnshire.

Hertfordshire looked like making a fight out of the game as the chased 305 to win and looked set to go the distance at 104-2.

However, a collapse ensued with the home side losing four wickets for just one run to effectively put them out of the game.

Hertfordshire regained some composure to offer some late resistance with final wicket pairing Ben Waring and Luke Chapman doing their best to stymie Staffs’ charge for the victory and managed to take the game into the final hour of play. However, Chapman was bowled for 46 to seal the points for the visitors as Hertfordshire were dismissed for 229. Walsall’s spinner Paul Byrne did the bulk of the damage for Staffs taking five wickets in the innings.
