James Shan plans a quick-fix for West Brom issues

Caretaker boss James Shan believes the problems which arose for Albion at the weekend are an ‘easy fix’ as they aim to bounce back tonight.

Shan was dealt his first defeat since taking temporary charge by Millwall at the weekend, and they are heading to Bristol City looking to put things right.

The Baggies go into the game fourth in the Championship, the Robins sixth, and Shan said on responding to a poor showing at The Den: “The mood in the camp is naturally low when you have a defeat.

“It was on Saturday in the changing room.

“But now it’s about positivity and looking ahead.

“We’ve not dwelt on the performance.

“There are things we have picked out to tighten and improve, but they are very, very fixable.

“The big problem we had on Saturday was the distance between our two centre-backs and the next unit – it opened the pitch a bit too big.

“They’re an easy fix. You either move your back four to your midfield four or move your midfield four to your back four.

“Those things are easily fixable.

“Now, it’s all concentration on Bristol City and they play a different style, a different shape.

“They’ll pose different threats, so all focus and attention is on that game.”

A disadvantage for Albion tonight is that they are without Egyptian defender Ahmed Hegazi after he was dismissed for two bookings against the Lions.

After scoring an own goal, he was given his marching orders and booted the ball into the home fans.

Shan says he will pull the stopper aside about the sending off – but later on in the week.

“With the games so close together, the suspension is something we’ll (speak about) later on in the week,” he added.

“You come in on a Monday morning, we were in on Sunday, we’re looking at three or four Bristol City games and then back at our game.

“There are a lot of things to do in such a short space of time, so we’ve just got to make sure we are focused on the game against Bristol City.

“No doubt, in the latter part of the week, maybe Thursday, I’ll speak to Ahmed.”
