Jordanne Whiley nets a new backer
Black Country wheelchair tennis star Jordanne Whiley’s return to the game after the birth of her first child has been boosted after secured backing from a new sponsor.
When the Halesowen star won her last Wimbledon doubles title in 2017, she was 11 weeks pregnant and struggling with severe morning sickness.
Now a mum to one-year-old Jackson, Whiley has started out on her comeback to competitive tennis, having made her return by winning the National Wheelchair Tennis Championships at The Shrewsbury Club.
Whiley knows it will be a challenge to be back on the tour competing full time and balancing life as a mum, but the challenge will be just one of many she has faced; Jordanne was born with osteogenesis imperfecta, commonly known as Brittle Bone disease, and spent much of her early life in and out of hospitals.
The 26-year-old has now won backing from the IKO Group, which makes roofing, waterproofing and insulation products and systems.
Whiley is looking forward to the 2019 season, saying ‘the comeback is going better than expected and I’m excited and feeling confident about the next few months’.
She added: “With the support of IKO removing some of the financial pressure, I hope to be able to relax even more to play my best tennis and make my way back into the top 20 World rankings this year.”
Next up for Jordanne are domestic indoor tournaments in Wrexham and Bolton next month before the international season begins with a trip to Switzerland in March.
