Former Walsall boss Richard Money lands Hartlepool job

National League side Hartlepool have appointed former Walsall boss Richard Money as their new manager.

The 63-year-old replaces Matthew Bates who lost his job a fortnight ago.

Money was boss as Saddlers from 2006-09, guiding them to the League Two title in 2007.

He also enjoyed success at Cambridge United. He last worked at Solihull Moors for a brief spell in 2017.

"It has been a detailed and necessarily difficult process because we have been inundated with applications from some exceptional candidates, so we have left nothing to chance by applying a professional approach to our recruitment," Hartlepool chairman Raj Singh said.

Money inherits a side sitting 13th in the National League, eight points off the play-off places.He has also worked as an academy director at Newcastle, Atlanta United and Norwich.
