Wayne Jones back to face Devon Petersen
Wolverhampton’s Wayne Jones will make his return to the PDC World Championship next month with a first-round tie against Devon Petersen.
Jones, 93rd in the PDC’s Order of Merit, is one of a record 96 players in this year’s draw, which the action getting under way on Thursday, December 13.
A semi-finalist in 2006, the 53-year-old – nicknamed The Wanderer – has not qualified for the past three years.
South African Petersen, 32, stands in his way of a second-round tie with 11th seed Ian White.
Meanwhile, defending champion Rob Cross – this year’s second seed – will take on Jeffrey De Zwaan or Nitin Kumar.
Two-time world champion and top seed Michael Van Gerwen takes on Alan Tabern or Raymond Smith in the second round, while fourth seed and two-time PDC world champion Gary Anderson will face either Paul Nicholson or Kevin Burness.
