Romain Saiss: Wolves to take fight to the Premier League
Romain Saiss has called for Wolves to take their fighting spirit into the Premier League - and avoid a relegation battle.
The 28-year-old Moroccan international reflected on a ‘fantastic’ season which saw Wolves win promotion and lift the Championship title.
He was an important part of the side - notching up 37 appearances across all competitions and netting four goals.
Saiss, who plays in midfield, said: “Fighting spirit is really important in football because sometimes maybe you play but we are not very good.
“But with the mental and fighting spirit we can win and don’t lose some games.
“So it is important to stay together especially when it will be harder. I hope we are going to have a good season in the Premier League.
“I hope we are going to show a good Wolves like we did this season. Like the team who play good football and a team who are like family on the pitch, where every player on the pitch and on the bench are concentrating on the objective.
“I hope it will be the same for the next season.”
Wolves have been tipped by bookmakers as the seventh-joint favourites to lift the title next year after their unforgettable season.
But Saiss said Wolves will be aiming to avoid a relegation scrap at the very least.
“I hope we don’t fight for the relegation until the end so we don’t play this type of game,” said Saiss. “We have to keep going like we did this season to stay as high as possible and show what we did season.”
The domestic football season may now be finished - but Saiss will be looking to get back playing soon with this summer’s World Cup.
He is one of a number of Wolves players who are in contention to represent their national teams.
Morocco play their first game on June 15 against Iran. “Now I don’t have time to be relaxed,” said Saiss, who joined Wolves in August 2016 on a four-year deal.
“I have to stay fit for the World Cup.”
