The 23-year-old triumphed at the event on what was only her second outing since taking a year’s break from the sport.

Simmonds spent 12 months travelling the world and admitted she contemplated retiring during her break – with the Walsall-born star eager to begin a career in teaching when she retires.

But she won gold in the MC 400m freestyle, MC 100m breast and MC 200m individual medley at the World Series in Indianapolis at the weekend.

She also picked up bronze medals in the 400m freestyle and 200m individual medley.

And the Paralympics superstar admits she now has her sights firmly set on Tokyo 2020.

“I had a year out after Rio 2016 so it’s nice to get back on the international stage and get preparations ready for this year,” said Aldridge’s Simmonds.

“To have a good swim in the 400m free and then in the 200m IM, it’s great preparation for future competitions.

“I just want to get back to where I was at Rio but I know it is not going to happen quickly overnight.

“It’s going to be a process, and my big aim is Tokyo 2020.”
