Dan Evans dumped by sponsor over drugs
West Midlands tennis star Dan Evans has been dumped by his sponsor after he admitted taking cocaine.
The Solihull-based British No.3 admitted using the drug after a positive test was revealed last week.
The 27-year-old said: “I made a mistake and I must face up to it. I do not condone for one second that this was acceptable behaviour. I’ve let a lot of people down.”
However, the statement cut little ice with sponsor Ellesse which pulled the plug on its deal with him last night.
The company said: “Dan has showed great promise on the court and has been a valued member of the Ellesse team. However, we cannot condone the lifestyle choices he has made and are therefore withdrawing his sponsorship.”
