Tuesday start at Aegon Classic for Maria Sharapova
Maria Sharapova will begin her Birmingham Aegon Classic campaign on Tuesday, June 20, it has been confirmed by organisers.
The five-time Grand Slam winner – who has recently returned from a doping ban – heads a star-studded field at the Edgbaston Priory Club, which will feature eight of the world’s top 10 – including world No.1 Angelique Kerber.
Great Britain’s Johanna Konta, the world No.8, will also play, along with the likes of Karolina Pliskova, Agnieszka Radwanska and Simona Halep.
Sharapova, who lifted the Birmingham title in 2004 and 2005, said: “I am so grateful and excited to be playing this event again.”
