Stourbridge's FA Cup adventure: Crazy times to be a Glassboy

Having grown up listening to tales about Wimbledon's famous 1988 FA Cup win, Matt Gould believes Stourbridge's own 'Crazy Gang' can extend their fairytale a little further.[gallery]

The Glassboys goalkeeper is the grandson of Bobby, the former Albion boss who led the Dons to victory over Liverpool at Wembley, in what arguably remains the biggest Cup final shock of all-time.

Wimbledon's dressing room was notorious for outrageous pranks and a close-knit spirit and Gould believes some of the same ingredients can be found in a Stourbridge team who have reached the third round for the first time in their history. Gary Hackett's men dumped League One Northampton out of the competition last month and are now targeting another shock at League Two Wycombe tomorrow.

"This is a great opportunity to go and show what we are capable of," said Gould. "This dressing room is a very special one. It is like our own little Crazy Gang.

"There are some good lads in there but they have the capability to go and cause an upset.

"A lot of the players here are capable of playing at a higher level. We have such a tight-knit group. Over the last 13 games we are unbeaten and there is a professionalism about the team. We believe we can give anyone a game."

Former Cheltenham and Livingston keeper Gould, who spends four days a week training at Albion where his dad Jonathan is goalkeeping coach, has been part of a Glassboys backline who have kept six clean sheets in the last eight games.

The 22-year-old is quick to give credit to the men in front of him, who ensured he went through the tie with Northampton without a shot to save.

Particular praise is reserved for Jack Duggan, Stour's centre-half who got the winner against the Cobblers and whose no-nonsense style was epitomised up by the fact he turned up for the club's final training session ahead of Saturday sporting a black eye sustained in Monday's win over Barwell.

Matt Gould will be hoping to shut out Wycombe, as the Glassboys made their final preparations

At Wycombe, the defender's anticipated battle with the Chairboys' giant striker Adebayo Akinfenwa could go a lot to deciding the outcome of the game.

"It will be a big test for him," said Gould. "He has got a bunged eye now and he will probably get another bunged eye on Saturday! He has been brilliant for us and hopefully he can continue. We have kept six clean sheets in eight games and they (the defence) have shown a strong mentality in winning games and getting results."

Should the Glassboys pull off the win tomorrow, Gould has no doubts who he would like to face in round four.

"I would like to play against Albion," he said. "I don't think I would be allowed back there for training though, I think Tony Pulis would ban me!"
