Stourbridge set for FA Cup third round draw following Northampton postponement

Stourbridge will this evening learn their potential FA Cup third round opponents – as boss Gary Hackett said he was devastated at yesterday's postponement.

The Glassboys' second round tie at home to Northampton Town was called off less than two hours before kick off owing to part of the pitch being frozen.

It means the club were in the hat for the third round for the first time in their 144-year history.

But Hackett saw no positives after the late postponement. "I'm devastated to be honest," he said.

"It's such a big anti-climax. The excitement of it, full crowd, all the preparation, TV cameras and suddenly we're told the game's off. It's a real downer."

The rearranged tie will take place a week tomorrow (Tuesday 13th) and Stourbridge – the lowest-ranked team left in the competition – will hope it is selected for live TV coverage.

Hackett played down criticism of referee Andy Davies, saying: "The referee is there to make a decision, whether I agree or disagree.

"Ten or 15 years ago it would have been played but with the PC brigade of today you're not allowed to risk it.

"I understand why he's made the decision.

"It was maybe a bit late, who knows? In hindsight he should have maybe got here earlier but it's a tough job to do, being a referee, so I don't think we should be pointing fingers anywhere."
