Dave Johnson steps up to land Wassell win

Dave Johnson Snr upped his game to land the Wassell Grove open match.

The contest was fished on the Match Pool at the Hagley complex and venue regular Johnson, who finished third in the previous contest, eased to a comfortable win.

He netted 46-2-0 of carp to 5lb, gathered on the long pole with pellet, fished to the island, off peg 45 to claim the spoils.

Wolverhampton's Kev Williams followed on peg 12, where he landed 30-8-0 of mainly skimmers and roach. Mark Hingley (Steven's Tackle) was third from peg 30 with 17-10-0.

Dave Anderson topped the scales in the Sportsman AC Open on the Ocker Hill length of the Walsall Canal in Tipton.

Anderson (ZLT Angling Products) headed a close cluster of weights with 5-0-0 of punch-tempted skimmers at peg three.

Dudley's Steve Broome (Dynamite Maver Midlands) ran him close on peg 14, where he poled caster for 4-12-0 of roach to 12oz, edging John Botwood (Sportsman AC) into third with 4-8-0 from peg four.

Sensas WB Clarke anglers fill the top three placings at the Float Only Open on the River Severn in Bewdley.

Drawn on peg 66, Trevor Chalk initially caught roach on the bolo, then on the whip with hemp and tares to bring a 34-13-0 top weight to the scalesman for a clear win.

Third in the previous week's match, Leon Blundell stepped up to finish second with 28-6-0 from peg 84. Andy Bruton had eight good chub in his third-placed 27-12-0 from peg 120.

The previous day's open saw Jim Wilson (KDAA) leave the rest of the field trailing. Wilson won by a country mile on peg 72, where he recorded 20-3-0 of dace with one good roach to finish 12lbs clear of his nearest rival.
