Lloyd Shelley wants to defend his crown
Lloyd Shelley will return to defend his Formula 600cc title when the Darley Moor series kicks back into life.
The flag will drop on another thrilling season of high speed motor-sport action on two, three and four wheels as the Darley Motor Cycle Road Race Club open the gates this weekend.
Shelley, from Burntwood, will compete in an eight-round championship at the circuit near Wyaston in Derbyshire.
Darley spokesman Brian George said: "With a huge variety of machinery, there is sure to be something of interest for any motor sport fan.
"From classic racing machines from the 1960s through to 125 and 250GP machines, modern day superbikes, 600cc and 1000cc side cars.
"New for this season, the Superkart-UK Clubmans championships for 125cc and 250cc karts.
"All have been meticulously prepared over the winter ready to be used in anger on the track over the next eight months.
"With a new season there is always the possibility of a 'new kid on the block' that surprises everybody with their talent and goes on to create some memorable achievements.
"Currently there are a number of British riders competing at world level that have seen their careers pass through the gates of Darley Moor."
Brierley Hill's Michael Rutter, who last year finished second during the one-off Stars of Darley Moor race, said he also hopes to be back this term.
He said: "I'm hoping to be back again because I always like racing there and it would be great to bring the Bathams BMW.
Former competitors to have raced around the iconic track include Mid Wales World Superbike rider Chaz Davis and MotoGP star Cal Crutchlow, from Coventry.
The 2016 season, which kicks off on Saturday, includes a double header with rounds three and four being held over the weekend, June 18-19.
Saturday's test day will run from 10am to 5pm, while Sunday's action begins with practice at 10am and the first race scheduled for 11.30am.
