Belgrade secure a shot at silverware

Belgrade dug deep to earn a shot at silverware in the Tom Bird Cup.

The Division Five promotion hopefuls edged out Division Four high-flyers Malthouse in a tense semi-final clash that needed extra-time to separate the sides.

The tie was locked at 2-2 after 90 minutes but it was Belgrade who grabbed the all-important fifth and deciding goal of the game.

Dave Maher, Adam Roberts and Troy Wilson found the net for Belgrade to cancel out strikes from Malthouse's Lee Haynes and Martin Shack.

Punjab went back in front when Ramesh Ram scored from close range only for Vaults to equalise again through Nikinder Uppal.

Uppal then bagged a dramatic winner with the last kick of the game.

Steve Owen was in sizzling form as Frying Pan Darlaston hammered Corpus Christi in Division Two.

Owen was just too hot to handle, blasting home six of the best to fire his side to a 9-0 victory.

Jake Robinson (two) and Sam Pearce added the other goals.

Chestnut Tree boosted their bid to avoid relegation with a 4-1 win against Wolverhampton Revolution.

Adam Meehan, Tyrone Clarke, Andy Jones and Michael Davies scored for the hosts with Richard Reid registering for the visitors.

Compton raced into a two-goal lead inside 10 minutes thanks to fine strikes from Jordon Duenole.

Barley were handed a lifeline when a Compton defender sliced into his own net to make it 2-1 before the break.

Tommy Nash levelled the scores after the restart before Ben Slater volleyed home to put Barley 3-2 up.

Captain John O'Keeffe curled a sublime effort into the top corner from 25 yards to make it 4-2 with Ben Slater wrapping up the scoring.

Daulton Thompson bagged a hat-trick in Phoenix TSG's 7-0 success against Newbridge.

Rich Booth, with a brace, Chris Parkes and James Edwards provided the goalscoring support.
