Kingswinford smash their way to silver

Students from The Kingswinford School badminton team served up more success as they took home two silver medals in the Black Country Games.

The boys' key stage four team made the final but were unable to power past Walsall's Streetly Academy at the University of Wolverhampton, Walsall campus.

The key stage three and four girls slipped to defeat to Wolverhampton Girls High School in their showdown.

The youngsters had qualified for the Games and the chance to progress in the National Schools Championship after sweeping the board by claiming golds at the Dudley Schools finals. That success extended the school's unbeaten run in the borough to 10 years.

The championships culminate in a national finals weekend, hosted at the National Badminton Centre in Milton Keynes.

Bronwyn Hedley, headteacher of The Kingswinford School, said: "This is a very proud moment for not only all students and staff here at The Kingswinford School but also the borough of Dudley and the Black Country.

"The school has gone from strength to strength since achieving the prestigious status of becoming an England Badminton Academy School in 2006."

Simon Baggott, coach and school governor, added: "To have such a high calibre of talented students, attending our school, is a great credit for us and our community.

"To be officially ranked as one of the most successful schools in the country is an achievement that all governors, staff and students here at The Kingswinford School are extremely proud of."
