Floyd Mayweather Jnr switched to Cannock
Guests have been promised a "more intimate experience" when boxing superstar Floyd Mayweather Jnr comes to Cannock next Friday.
Promoter Scott Murray has confirmed he's switching the event to his Bar Sport venue from Resorts World in Birmingham,
He's staging the show in conjunction with Spencer Brown and Carl Cato, the latter their direct link to negotiations with Mayweather.
A combination of slow ticket sales, plus huge overheads, have led to the decision which Murray claims which will actually benefit his public.
'An Audience With' the undefeated five-weight world champion, who retired unbeaten with a 49-0-0 professional record last year, will now take place in Bar Sport's Premier Suite.
The 300-capacity venue is smaller than the 800 that can fit into the Vox, at Resorts World in the second city's National Exhibition Centre.
And Mr Murray believes downsizing the setting will offer a unique up-close-and personal show with the world's fifth richest sportsman, who has earned $650million from his career.
Mayweather hung up his gloves as the highest-paid athlete on the planet. His 'super fight' with Manny Pacquiao last May broke every financial record in the sport, grossing $300million.
'Pretty Boy' is the best boxing draw Las Vegas has ever attracted, with his swansong against Andre Berto in September his 12th straight fight to take place at the MGM Grand.
He landed in London for his two-week 'Victory' UK Tour on Tuesday. His first two dates, in Cardiff and Bristol, were cancelled. He's due to appear at the capital's Hilton Hotel tonight.
The 38-year-old filled the time by flying to Turkey, visiting friends in Istanbul. Rumours suggest he only stopped for a meal before heading back.
Mr Murray would not be drawn on whether Mayweather would be picking up £75,000 for his night's work, but insists quality will not be compromised by the switch.
He said: "The only difference to our customers is that you will get more for your money now. I could have called the whole thing off, but I'm proud to be doing this.
"I'm happy as long as I cover my costs. I'm not looking to make money out of it, I just want the pleasure of bringing a boxing legend to the Midlands again.
"I know how it works at my place, I know we can do it and I know we can deliver a fantastic evening. If anything, it's going to be better.
"It's going to be fabulous. One thing for certain, apart from death and paying taxes, is that you will never see Floyd Mayweather in Cannock again.
"It's unique and quite special that this big star is going to come to a little town like ours and share himself with everybody.
"Our venue has been good enough for the likes of Roberto Duran, Tommy Hearns, 'Sugar' Ray Leonard and Evander Holyfield, so it's good enough for Mayweather."
Ticket prices have been adjusted in the process, with 100 left available. Those who bought passes who do not wish to come to Cannock will be issued with a full refund.
'Bronze' tickets are still £99, but now offer a three-course meal along with a seat. There will also be photo opportunities for an added fee, which wasn't the case at the Vox.
'Silver' tickets are now £225, down from £299, including the meal and seating in the middle of the room. A photo with Mayweather is included in the price.
'Gold' tickets are £450, dropped from £550, and offer access to the VIP room with a drinks reception. Priority seating, the meal and photo are part of the package.
Those who purchased tickets at the higher price will be reimbursed the difference. For more information, call Mr Murray's Bar Sport Promotions on 01543 572 092.
