Karl Hawley missed a golden opportunity to give the hosts the lead in first half when he fired over the bar through on goal.

Instead it was the visitors who grabbed the lead just before the hour mark when Constable stabbed home from close range.

Payne then made it two before Hawley's miserable day was compounded when he had a late penalty saved.

It is the third time in five seasons the Glassboys have been knocked out at this stage of the competiton, while Eastleigh advance to the third round for the first time in their history.

Ultimately, the National League Premier side's clinical finishing was the difference in a closely-contested game played in blustery conditions.

Gary Hackett, while no doubt proud of his team's effort, will no doubt wonder what might have been.

The Stourbridge boss named his strongest possible line-up for one of the biggest days in the club's history.

Conditions were far from perfect, with the wind's effect was evident from the word go as the kick-off had to be taken again when the ball rolled backwards.

Playing into the gusts during the first half made life tough for the home defence at set pieces and an early Eastleigh corner, which swung viciously, had to be headed behind by Brian Smikle at the far post.

Both teams had to be on their guard and the conditions almost helped Stour fashion an opener, when Matt Dodd's up-and-under drifted to skipper Stuart Pierpoint, whose header was kept out by visiting keeper Russ Flitney. Kristian Green's follow up shot was deflected over the bar.

Eastleigh looked dangerous in patches and some uncertain Stour defending led to Jack Midson having a shot blocked, while a well-timed Dan Scarr block was required to deny Ben Strevens after Jai Reason's through ball had bobbled past the backline.

Reason then thought he had scored with a shot from the corner of the box which drifted inches past the far post after neat build-up play.

But the best chance of the half, by some distance, fell to the hosts. Tom Tonks' ball forward was little more than a hoofed clearance but it found Hawley racing clear. With Flitney in no man's land, the striker tried to lob the keeper but could only watch in agony as the ball floated a foot over the bar.

Stour were forced into a change early in the second half when Leon Broadhurst was forced off. His replacement, Ben Billingham, almost made an immediate impact with a low free-kick which Flitney had to touch round the post.

The hosts were in the ascendency but then, suddenly, behind. Payne's free-kick was headed toward goal by Joe Partington but though keeper Lewis Solly kept it out, the ball fell to Constable who finished from close range.

Eastleigh almost had a second soon after but Solly rescued his team with a fine save, one-on-one with Andy Drury after Constable's through ball.

Stour still carried a threat and Richards was inches away from connecting with a Dodd cross, one of several the winger fired into the box.

But with 13 minutes to go their hopes were extinguished when Payne got Eastleigh's second. Strevens controlled a cross from the right and with Solly out to narrow the angle, rolled the ball for his team-mate to drive into the unguarded net.

Hawley then had a chance to get Stour back into it when he was felled in the box but Flitney kept out his spot-kick, diving to his left.
