Rugby Town 2 Chasetown 3

A solitary late Kalum Evitts goal gave Lye Town all three Midland Football League Premier points at home to AFC Wulfrunians.

It was just the third defeat suffered in 10 games for the visitors.

Chances were hard to come by in the first half, but Wulfs had a glimpse of the target on the half-hour.

Lye failed to clear a dangerous Jamie King corner and John Hill pounced on the loose ball only to see his top corner-bound shot clawed away in fine style by Jake Bedford.

Bedford excelled again just after the break, this time tipping away Kyle Minto's effort after the Wulfs man had been played in by King.

The ball flew into the air and Ben Jevons reacted first for the visitors. But he was off-balance as he leaped for a header and his effort went agonisingly wide of the empty net.

Lye's first real opportunity came in the 71st minute, through Sam Tye.

He cut in from the right and beat two players before letting fly with a low, bobbling effort that Wulfs keeper Danny Tipton pushed onto a post.

It looked as if the hosts, coming more into the game, would have to be satisfied with a point.

But they found a winner just three minutes from time. Tom Overfield picked up the ball on the left, drove at the Wulfs' defence and fired in a low cross which Evitts back-heeled into the corner.

Wulfrunians will have to pick themselves up from this result quickly as the games keep coming for them.

They have a chance to regroup with back-to-back home matches as they host Shepshed Dynamo in midweek before entertaining Long Eaton United at the weekend.
