Home duo fail in Aegon GB Pro-Series bid
Home hopes Luke Henley and Matthew Bailey were unsuccessful in their bid to qualify for tomorrow's main draw of the Tipton tennis event.
Just eight spots were available for the main draw, with 48 hopefuls launching their tilt at the spots yesterday.
Henley trains at Tipton Sports Academy and received a bye in the first round of qualifying.
He put his stylish single-handed backhand to the test in the second round against Isaac Stoute. But he went down 6-0, 6-2.
Having received a wildcard into the tournament, Dudley local Bailey secured a good first round win.
And he put up a brave fight against the No 12 seed Jonathan Gray, winning the first set before going out 1-6, 6-3, 6-2.
No 1 seed Sam Barry from Ireland comfortably secured his place in the final round of qualifying, and will be joined by Jan Zielinski.
The Pole fought hard against Britain's Matthew Story to earn his place, winning their second round match 7-5, 7-5.
Harry Meehan, of Liverpool, won both his qualifying matches in straight sets, and will join fellow Brit Curtis Clarke, seeded ninth, in the final round of qualifying.
With the line-up for the final round of qualifying matches, featuring strong British interest in the form of Billy Harris (seeded second).
There's also Keelan Oakley, five, Joel Cannell, eight and Marcus Walters, 10, there is plenty of British interest in today's matches.
Rosie Page, Aegon GB Pro-Series Tipton tournament director, said: "In partnership with Sandwell Leisure Trust and the ITF, the Lawn Tennis Association is excited to be holding this event in Tipton.
"With fantastic play yesterday and eight exciting matches scheduled from 10am today, I encourage local spectators and families to come down and watch some world class tennis, free of charge."
