Parker proves a Match for his Charity Open rivals
Some 32 anglers set up around the Match and Brook Pools at Wassell Grove Fisheries in Hagley for Sunday's Birmingham Children's Hospital Charity Open.
Venue expert, Stourbridge-based Sam Parker (Club 2000) eased to victory on Match peg 42 with 41-8-0 of carp to 6lb plus F1s around the 1½lb mark.
Parker fished the straight lead with bread at distance to the island, then poled pellet and bread in his left-hand margin.
Runner-up was James Turner (Alvechurch Fishery) who poled pellet at 11.5 metres from Brook peg 13 to scale 26-8-0 comprising of a few carp, boosted by F1s and mixed silvers.
Wassell Grove's own Rob Gandley initially pole-fished caster and worm out, then pellet for a few F1s, before swapping to caster on his right-hand edge line for 16lb of silvers, then across to the lily pads at 14.5 metres for more F1s.
He recorded 25-2-0 for third place on Match peg one. A total of £255 was raised for the hospital and MAP and Maver products were donated as prizes.
n Walsall-rod Neville Groves (Foster's) secured back-to-back wins at Moorlands Farm in Hartlebury over the weekend.
He landed Saturday's 28-peg Bank, Moors and Island Pools open event in style by finishing almost 100lb clear of his nearest adversary!
Pole-fishing pellet down the edges of Bank peg 21, Groves slid a magnificent 181-13-0 haul of carp to 10lb into his keepnets.
He left Iwan Mills (Robin's Timber) in second with smaller pellet-tempted lumps to 8lb for 83-14-0 from Bank peg 23.
Groves' second triumph came at Sunday's Meadow and Moors Pools open when he led the 31-strong field with an impressive 143-0-0 catch which included carp to 6lb and F1s in the 4lb class, collected on poled pellet in the margins of Moors peg 15.
A 105-5-0 weight of F1s to 3lb saw Ken Turner (Red Lion Earlswood) second on Moors peg 11.
