Robbie reaches the end of his epic Irish ride
Former Wolves winger Robbie Dennison has completed his epic 565-mile charity cycle ride along the west coast of Ireland.
Dennison and others undertook the gruelling challenge to raise money for Diabetes UK. And over the weekend the popular Northern Irishman smashed his £1,000 fundraising target. Dennison has now upped the total to £1,500 with Wolves fans, friends and well-wishers showing great support for him completing the exhausting endurance test.
The 52-year-old said: "It's been the most mentally challenging thing I've ever done but the sense of achievement within the group is fantastic."
The Birmingham Irish Cycle Appeal is an annual bike ride which sees a team of around 20 tackle an ambitious cycling challenge, with previous rides taking place in America and Cyprus.
Hundreds of pounds were donated to Dennison's fundraising pot over the weekend, including around £300 on Saturday to pass the £1,000 barrier as news came through that the ex-Wolves star had completed the challenge.
Charles Ross, editor of Wolves fanzine A Load Of Bull, was part of Dennison's back-up team.
He paid tribute to the former left-winger, who scored 49 goals in 353 Wolves games, and said Dennison greatly appreciated the support he was receiving.
"Robbie was overwhelmed by the generosity of Wolves fans when he got a text at 3.45pm on Saturday telling him the news (of reaching £1,000) as he was recovering the day after the ride.
"His fundraising team have raised the bar to £1,500 in a bid to smash the original target and are confident Wolves fans will make it happen."
