Dean Smith: One more win and Walsall beat the drop

Dean Smith thinks there is a simple equation facing Walsall when they take on Crawley Town tonight – win and be safe.

The Saddlers boss believes three more points are all that's needed to secure the Saddlers League One status for another year.

Saturday's 1-0 win over Fleetwood has eased the pressure on Smith's side but he is determined they maintain focus for the visit of the Reds, who sit four points behind them in the table and are only out of the relegation zone on goal difference.

Asked if one more win is all that's needed to ensure safety, Smith replied: "I would have thought so.

"But it's about – and I've said it for the last few weeks – putting in the same level of performances.

"It's tough to say (if we are safe yet) because there are still five games to go. The one advantage that we've got is our goal difference. And the fact that we've got a game in hand on a number of teams below us who have still got to play against each other.

Important

"Crawley now is just as important as Saturday's game was and that's what we need to start to get our heads around now as well."

Smith is likely to name an unchanged team from the one which ended their seven-game winless run on Saturday, with Tom Bradshaw eager to spark a strong finish to the season.

"We're a team that shouldn't be down there so we want to get as many points as possible to finish as high up the table as possible, to try to do justice to the way we play – and for the gaffer, for the coaches and ourselves," said Bradshaw, who notched his 17th of the campaign to see the Saddlers past Fleetwood.

Crawley, managed by former Wolves boss Dean Saunders, arrive in the Black Country looking to bounce back from a 2-1 defeat at Scunthorpe. It's Saunders'

first return to the region since his sacking at Molineux in May 2013.
