Former Albion player Lee Hughes may return to Kidderminster Harriers
Former West Bromwich Albion player Lee Hughes could be on his way back to Kidderminster Harriers.
Harriers boss Gary Whild said he believed Smethwick-born Hughes would be a 'godsend' if a deal can be struck to bring the striker back to Aggborough – the place where he started his career 20 years ago.
He is currently with Conference rivals Forest Green Rovers but is believed to be keen on a move.
Hughes, who turns 39 this May, was in the crowd as Harriers slipped to defeat against Macclesfield on Saturday and manager Whild later confirmed the interest. "No disrespect to Forest Green – I don't want to talk about other people's players – but Lee is a local lad and started his career here. He has indicated he would be keen to come back and that would be a godsend," Whild said.
Hughes scored 70 goals in 139 appearances for Harriers between 1994 and 1997 before moving to Albion.
In 2004 he was sentenced to six years for causing death by dangerous driving. After serving half his time in prison, he was released and joined Oldham.
