Liz Bradbury is on target to be a shooting star at 16

She didn't start in the sport until 2013 – but already teenager Liz Bradbury has her sights set on shooting stardom.

A natural from the first time she held a gun, the Burntwood teen has joined the GB Junior Team and became British Junior Ladies Rifle champion in 2014.

In December she was approached by ammunition manufacturer Eley, who will be sponsoring Liz and supporting her in a gruelling training regime.

"I am really, really pleased," Liz said. "It'll help with my shooting, but it's also going to help financially as well. I'd like to think I could get right the top."

Liz's sporting career began at the age of four, when she began riding horses.

She started competing at a low level before moving onto county shows. She is also interested in teaching others, and is dedicated to making that her career.

"Horse riding will be my job, shooting will be my sport," Liz explained. Although her first passion is still riding – and it was through that training that she found her second sport.

Through her pony club, she was put forward to take part in a modern pentathlon, which encompasses show jumping, shooting, running, swimming and fencing.

Liz said: "I enjoyed the shooting and was good from the get go. The coaches said how good I was."

She spent the next year practising at every opportunity and was accepted into the GB Junior Team.

"It's brilliant to be a part of the squad," Liz explained. "It's quite nerve-wracking, there's some very good shooters, but you have to keep your nerves down and do what you're there to do."

And while she sees teaching horse riding as her future career, mother Janine is sure there's no limit to the talented teen's success.

Mrs Bradbury said: "This is taking off in ways we didn't expect, and that's very exciting.

"It's quite amazing what she's done in such a short time. It's been a bit of a whirlwind, and I don't think she realises just how good she is."

Mrs Bradbury attributes at least part of Liz's success to the coaches at Rugeley Rifle Club, where Liz has trained since she became interested in the sport.

"They have guided her onto the pathway to success through the GB junior Rifle squad and now with the sponsorship support from Eley easing the finances (shooting is self funded in GB ), she can aim her sights on even greater targets."
