Run ends but Telford Tigers are still well clear

Telford Tigers are nine points clear at the top of the English Premier League standings – despite losing their six-game winning streak against Manchester Phoenix last night.

A nail-biting encounter went down to the wire at Telford Ice Rink, as a bumper crowd saw Tigers miss out via a penalty shoot-out after the game ended 5-5.

Captain Jason Silverthorn gave his side an excellent chance of success with a well-taken hat-trick, alongside goals from Blaho Novak and Joe Miller.

But they were unable to find a way past former Tigers netminder Declan Ryan, after the visitors clawed their way back from an early three-goal deficit.

On Saturday night, however, Telford collected a 4-2 victory over Basingstoke Bison, thanks to two more strikes from Silverthorn, as well as goals from Miller and Peter Szabo.

But results elsewhere yesterday saw Tigers retain their eight-point lead.

And the Tigers NIHL side made a return to winning ways last night with an 8-4 success at Widnes Wild – just seven days after losing 3-2 at the same rink.
