Jackett: Saville will prove a coup for us

Kenny Jackett today declared new signing George Saville a coup as he revealed Wolves are in for his Chelsea team-mate Patrick Bamford.

Left-footed Saville, 21, left Chelsea to become Wolves' third summer signing yesterday when he penned a three-year contract in a deal believed to be worth around £1m.

"I think Saville can do a bit of everything, but generally he likes to attack," said head coach Jackett.

"He's a very good all-round midfielder that we've done well to get.

"He's one of those players we could have waited a year or two and he'll be worth a lot more and sometimes those players become very difficult to buy.

"There were several other clubs at this level interested in him. But once he saw Wolves were interested and he came here, and having seen us play last year, he thought he could fit in."

Jackett defended bringing in another midfielder, adding: "It's been a good area but if we're looking to improve it's in efforts on goal from that area.

"I haven't necessarily been disappointed with our midfield, but the players playing at present need more competition."

Bamford was set to join Middlesbrough on a season-long loan last week but asked for more time as Wolves and other clubs made their pitch.

Jackett added: "We've enquired about him in the past but I don't know currently what's happening with him and where he's going. I don't know what his options are and where he stands in Chelsea's pecking order.

"At one stage it seemed he was quite high but is he falling down it now?

"We're not necessarily in regular touch with regard to where he's going next, if he goes anywhere."

Jackett will be without Liam McAlinden for Saturday's visit of Blackburn due to a calf injury picked up in training.
