The Oldbury athlete finished ninth in Yokohama on Saturday having won the opening two races to lead the WTS Championship.

But the 25-year-old was injured for the run and needed stitches in her foot after falling at the end of the bike stage.

Stimpson's bike tripped her up while she was running alongside as she prepared for the final 10k run and she finished in two hours and 15 seconds.

She holds a 205 point lead at the top ahead of American Gwen Jorgensen, who won in Japan, ahead of the London triathlon on May 31.

Jorgensen clinched victory in 1.58.38 ahead of Japan's Al Ueda and Poland's Agnieszka Jerzyk. In the men's race GB's Alistair Brownlee and brother Jonathan finished fourth and fifth respectively.

Spain's Javier Gomez Noya claimed a third win from the first three races to top the standings ahead of Jonathan Brownlee.
