Jan Molby coming back to the West Midlands
Liverpool legend Jan Molby will reveal all about his glittering career at a special evening in Wolverhampton later this month.
Molby will appear at the Cleveland Arms, Stowheath Lane, on Thursday week – May 22 – after reaching the grand old age of 50.
The Dane, who made almost 300 appearances for the Anfield side and scored 61 goals, is a popular speaker on the after-dinner circuit and the first-ever football guest at the sports pub.
He follows in the footsteps of darts legends Phil Taylor and Eric Bristow and world speedway champion Tai Woffinden.
Molby said: "I'm looking forward to the evening and there will be lots to talk about. I still have a lot of friends in that area from my time as manager of Kidderminster Harriers. It will be a great night."
Molby led Kidderminster to promotion to the Football League during his first spell with the club – and he's revealed how he almost joined Birmingham City during his glittering career.
He said: "I was on loan at Norwich and Barry Fry called me to see if I would be interested in joining him at Birmingham. I was, but then he asked about my wages and the conversation ended there!"
The evening will be hosted by Express & Star speedway writer and Talk Sport football commentator Nigel Pearson.
The Cleveland Arms' Will Adamson told of how demand has been high for the event, saying: "We have had a lot of enquiries and tickets have been selling fast.
"We are delighted to have a guest of Jan's stature as our first football speaker. He has his own stories – some serious comments and some hilarious anecdotes.
"This is one night where I want to sit in the audience and listen to every word."
Tickets, which are just £5, are available from the Cleveland Arms pub, online at www.clevelandarms.com or by calling 01902 451021. VIP tickets are £20.
