Edwards winning his fitness battle to return for Wolves' promotion run-in
Dave Edwards was today backed to win his fitness battle and be a major player for Wolves in the promotion run-in.
The Wales international came off during Tuesday's 4-2 win over Colchester as a precaution with tightness in his hamstring.
But the early withdrawal is expected to have avoided any damage and he is expected to be fit for Saturday's fans' bonanza at MK Dons.
"Dave Edwards had a very slight tight hamstring but hopefully him coming off has helped him recover for Saturday," said head coach Kenny Jackett. "He was feeling tired around his hamstring area and, while he's just come back into the side, we have to make sure we look after him.
"Hopefully he won't have any ill-effects and will be OK for Saturday."
Edwards has scored in his last two games to make it a healthy five in 22 games this season, matching his best total in his six years at Molineux.
The 28-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season but had the fans chanting his name before and after he was substituted on Tuesday.
And Jackett feels the former Shrewsbury man has made a positive contribution.
"He's been a very good player for us in the times he's contributed," said the boss. "I think he's showed a maturity in midfield that we've needed."
Edwards was put clean through with a chance to make it 4-0 and won the fans' vote as their man of the match against Colchester.
After he went off, Wolves had a scare and conceded twice and the Us hit the post before substitute Nouha Dicko secured a 4-2 victory.
Jackett added: "When he went through I'd already decided to take him off."
