Jake Cassidy's Rovers return can restore his Wolves confidence
Wolves striker Jake Cassidy was today backed to return ready to finally hit the goal trail at Molineux as he embarked on his latest loan spell at Tranmere.
The 20-year-old has joined Rovers for a third stint for three months after successful spells there in each of the last two seasons.
Cassidy is set to make his latest bow for the Wirral side at home to fellow strugglers Crewe on Saturday.
The Wales Under-21 international has failed to score in 25 outings for Wolves but has netted 16 goals in 36 league games for the Prenton Park club in his two spells.
And head coach Kenny Jackett is convinced the youngster's return to familiar surroundings will be just the spark he needs to start finding the net again.
"We think this will boost his confidence and bring him back to us whenever that will be, with more game time and hopefully some goals for Tranmere, preferably against some of our rivals!" said Jackett.
"He's had chances on a regular basis for us and hasn't quite put them away.
"Sometimes you just need the first one to then go on a run.
"There's a recall after 28 days but initially it's for three months and we hope he can get some goals and build his confidence up in that period because the games he's played for us he's been a handful.
"He's been very committed but just been unlucky with a number of chances that his career ahead of him at 20, will come.
"He's had a number of starts and he's been unlucky having had quite a high number of chances, starting with the one he had at Bristol City away early in the season."
Jackett added: "It will be a good loan for him – we think it's the right step for his particular career.
"I think he'll fit in very quickly there - he'll hit the ground running.
"That's an advantage of this particular loan.
"There won't be a transitional period or getting to know what's required there. I see that as an advantage."
Meanwhile, Matt Doherty stepped up his comeback with another hour in last night's Under-21s' 2-1 defeat to Chelsea at Telford.
Ethan Ebanks-Landell played 90 minutes after his knee injury on New Year's Day.
