Kidderminster Harriers dreaming of fourth round Premier League tie
Gary Whild today admitted Kidderminster are eyeing a giant-killing – as Villa and Albion enraged fans by crashing out of the FA Cup.
The Harriers No.2 insisted a clash with Premier League Sunderland in the fourth round is a "carrot" after Saturday's 0-0 draw with Peterborough.
Kidderminster could be the West Midlands' only club in the next round following two no-shows on Saturday.
Villa suffered an embarrassing 2-1 defeat at home to League One Sheffield United while Albion lost 2-0 at The Hawthorns to Crystal Palace.
Birmingham are yet to discover their third-round opponents with Crawley or Bristol Rovers playing on Wednesday after two attempts to play were thwarted by the weather.
And Whild reckons a trip to the Stadium of Light gives Harriers more motivation before their replay at London Road next Tuesday. "It certainly makes the replay more interesting," he said. "It's a real carrot, for them as well as us. For us, getting through and going to play a Premier League club would be a dream."
The 3,858-crowd at Aggborough were treated to a pulsating game in which Skrill Conference Harriers gave as good as they got. The visitors hit the bar THREE times in the space of seconds during an huge goal-mouth scramble, with boss Darren Ferguson claiming the ball had been "two yards" over the line.
Harriers right-back Lee Vaughan shrugged off the controversy and said: "I've never celebrated defending, I just wanted someone to hug so I grabbed Danny (Lewis) and hugged him."
But it was disaster for Villa and the Baggies as they were dumped out.
Ryan Flynn struck late on to earn a deserved victory for United at Villa Park to turn up the pressure on boss Paul Lambert after his claims he could do without the competition.
Although 70 per cent of an Express & Star online poll believed Lambert was right to prioritise the league, Baggies fans were also let down.
Palace knocked Albion out in what is likely to be Keith Downing's last game as caretaker boss, with Dwight Gayle and Marouane Chamakh scoring.
