I can still catch Emil, declares Woffinden
Wolves ace Tai Woffinden takes up the world speedway championship chase tonight believing leader Emil Sayfutdinov is due a poor meeting.
The Grand Prix circus starts again at Terenzano, Italy, after the World Cup break with the brilliant young Russian defying the pain from a broken foot to be 13 points ahead of the second-placed Monmore star.
Sayfutdinov has won three of the first seven GP stagings – but Woffinden declared: "I don't think you can ride a full season like how he has been riding."
Woffinden, who took his maiden GP victory at Prague in the Czech Republic in May, has been competing in pain himself since breaking a collarbone in the Cardiff round but is convinced he is still in the hunt.
"I can still catch Emil," he said. "There are five more Grand Prix meetings. It's going to be tough and Emil has a nice lead on everyone, but I don't think you can ride a full season like how he has been riding.
"Maybe Emil has a couple of bad meetings to come and hopefully I can keep riding the way I have been riding. We'll just see how the season pans out."
