WEST BROM
As reported on ExpressandStar.com yesterday, West Brom are hoping to comfirm today the signing of Uruguay captain Diego Lugano from Paris Saint Germain. The centre-half, 32, would be Albion's second signing of the summer. The Baggies remain in the hunt for Salomon Kalou, but face competition from West Ham, Trabzonspor and Valencia for the Lille star.
ASTON VILLA
The race between Fulham and Newcastle to secure Darren Bent's services seems to be entering the final stretch. There are mixed reports but Fulham seem to be edging ahead, after having an initial £4m bid for the striker rejected by Villa. It is understood that offer is significantly more than Newcastle, who have not yet submitted a formal bid, are prepared to pay.
