Stafford Rangers manager Greg Clowes could field his starting line-up for the first day of the new season in their pre-season friendly at Llandudno.

Rangers travel to Wales to tackle the Cymru Alliance club in a tough away fixture of their pre-season programme, two weeks before the big kick-off.

And Clowes may give fans a sneek peek on Saturday by fielding the side that will start the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League campaign at Kendal.

Defenders Luke George, Karl Espley, Liam Walshe and winger Peter Heler are suspended for the start for the season, with Walshe on holiday anyway.

Jon Sheldon and Sean Kinsella face a month out injured but goalkeeper Danny Read is back from his summer break and will travel with the squad.

Clowes said: "I am going to be sharpening things up a bit now, I am not going to be moving things around to give players fitness.

"There is players who have impressed me and if they are available on the opening day of the season, they will play.

"The lads who are suspended for the start of the season will play at Kidsgrove, as I have got to get their fitness levels up.

"I know, in my mind, what my back four is going to be for the start of the season and I have got to make sure those lads don't get injured.

"If I pick up another injury at centre-half, I have only got one left, so I have got to be very careful."
