Chasetown agree deals to sign trio
Chasetown manager Craig Harris today revealed he's agreed deals to bring a hat-trick of strikers to the Scholars Ground for next season.
Chasetown manager Craig Harris today revealed he's agreed deals to bring a hat-trick of strikers to the Scholars Ground for next season.
Nick Wellecomme, ex-Scholar Gary Hay and Matthew Jukes will all join when the club can register them to non-contract forms on July 1.
Wellecomme is a high-profile arrival boasting experience at all three of the non-league levels above where he will be playing this time.
The 28-year-old was released by local rivals Hednesford this summer and was a team-mate of Hay at Keys Park during the last campaign.
Hay, 25, returns to the Scholars a year after his departure and was a part of their last promotion to the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League.
Jukes joins after just two months at Stafford Rangers but the 6ft 3in hitman did grab 17 goals in the Midland Alliance for Tividale last season.
They will fill the striking berths left by Dean Perrow, Gary Birch and Danny Quinn while defender Jack Farmer has moved to Australia.
Harris said: "We have lost all of our front-men so we needed some front-runners, they are all signed and we are waiting to register them.
"They have all agreed terms and shook hands on a deal."
The Scholars boss is also keeping David Read at the club as a first-team coach and is looking forward to working with his new signings.
He said: "Nick will hold the ball up well, get about and works hard, he seems like a nice lad as well. I know he's a physical player but he's really quiet.
"We chased Gary and he's a big signing for us, he's a lad I have played against and always admired from afar.
"To be honest, Matthew will have to establish himself at our level, he's got to aim to get 30-plus games under his belt and a few goals.
The manager is also waiting to confirm he's fixed up a pre-season friendly for Chasetown against Premier League or Championship opposition.
