The 18-year-old Irish age group international is enjoying the benefits of a new three-year deal which ties him to the club until 2015.

And he admits he and his contemporaries will relish the chance to stake their claim for first-team consideration when Solbakken gets to work with the squad for the first time next month.

"We've got a new manager at the club and I think every player will be looking to come back and impress in pre-season," said Forde.

"That applies to the young players as well. A few of us managed to get a chance last season and we will all be coming back to try and get some games again next year.

"But I know it will be difficult. There are a lot of very good players at the club and competition for places will be tough.

"I just need to carry on working hard and trying to impress and hopefully I can be there or thereabouts."

Forde made his breakthrough with a first Premier League start against Arsenal at the Emirates last season.

And the one-time Academy starlet added: "I was very pleased to sign the new deal towards the end of last season. I think it always gives you a confidence boost and it's just that added security."
