Chasetown today told new manager Craig Harris he's under no pressure to restore the club to the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League at the first attempt.

Former Scholars captain Harris replaced Chris Brindley last month as the club were relegated after two seasons in non-league's third tier.

The club had financially backed Brindley and his predecessor Charlie Blakemore to the tune of eight contracted players for the campaign.

The Scholars have now been restored to the level they were promoted from two years ago, the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League First Division South.

They will cut their cloth accordingly and getting the club stable again is the manager's first directive, chief executive Mick Joiner insists.

He said: "We never put that pressure on any manager and we never have, Craig has been told that as his predecessors were.

"We want to see a drive and Craig is quite keen to get us re-established, at least in the upper reaches of the league.

"There's no point putting pressure on him, he's got a fresh start and the expectancy is that we win more than we lose.

"Our number one priority, at the moment, is to build a squad of players who are hungry and want to do well for the club."
