Stafford Rangers manager Greg Clowes today warned last season's squad they are unlikely to be offered contracts to stay at Marston Road.

Rangers finished Clowes' first campaign with two contracted players in defender Luke George and midfielder Glynn Blackhurst.

Blackhurst arrived last summer on one-year terms, while George was handed a contract last November after making an impact on the team.

But the duo could only be offered non-contract forms for next season, with Clowes wary of having the club tied to players on long deals.

Those who impressed as the season went on may also not see their terms upgraded such as Chris Morris, Ryan Brown and Michael Carr.

Clowes said: "It's realistic to say that the current squad won't be offered contracts. Such a deal, at this level, is more for the player than for the club.

"If they are going to get a deal with us, it will be because the club want to give them one."

The lack of security could actually appeal to George, 19, who harbours ambitions of becoming a full-time footballer.

The teenager was released by Crewe - where he had been for nearly a decade - last year after missing out on a pro deal.

Blackhurst experienced injury problems over the season and Clowes plans talks with both player about their futures.

He said: "I hope that Luke will stay this year, I have got to speak to him about that and we have a good relationship.

"There wasn't too many 19-year-olds knocking about our league last season, that's a testament to his ability.

"I don't think we have seen the best of Glynn Blackhurst, due to the problems he was having with his back.

"He's another player that I have got to speak to, but I am led to believe that no-one wants to go."
