Chasetown caretaker boss Andy Cox today admitted he would "definitely consider" taking the job permanently despite the club's first-ever relegation.

But Cox also conceded he may struggle to devote enough time to the role, which caused Charlie Blakemore to stand down last October.

Blakemore works as a managing director for an aerospace company while Cox, conversely, is a software developer and has young twin daughters.

Chris Brindley was surprisingly sacked as manager three days before the Scholars' do-or-die clash at Burscough last Saturday, which ended 4-4.

Frickley's win over Stafford Rangers confirmed the drop - regardless of Northwich's demotion - from the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League.

They now rejoin the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Division One South they were promoted from through the play-offs two seasons ago.

And Cox said: "The club needs to decide whether it wants a fresh approach or to tweak it a little bit. That's for them to decide.

"They won't be short of applicants, I believe there's a lot of managers who would see the club as a good project.

"Personally, I think there's enough experience at the club and, if they feel I am the best man for the job, I will definitely consider it.

"There are other commitments in my life, as well, I am sure I could find time but it wouldn't be easy to fit everything in.

"All I have said is that I will support whatever decision the board of directors make, 100 per cent.

"It's important the club make a quick decision but it's also important the club make the right decision.

"That's for Chasetown, not Andy Cox."
