Stafford Rangers manager Greg Clowes today hinted that teenage defender Luke George will be offered a new contract to stay for next season.

The 18-year-old has been a revelation since arriving at Marston Road for the current campaign and is a regular a fixture at centre-half.

The stopper netted his first Evo-Stik Northern Premier League goal in the 4-1 win over Chasetown on Saturday, underlining his progress.

George was rewarded by being put on contract in November, which expires in the summer, as Rangers looked to protect their asset.

The Crewe academy product was on trial at Blackburn as recently as last summer and, understandably, wants to return to the full-time game.

But, until that offer is forthcoming, Clowes wants Rangers to be his home, which strongly suggests that the teenager will be offered terms to stay.

The Rangers boss said: "Luke George has shown this season, for a lad who is only 18, that he's been well worth the contract we gave to him.

"He wears his heart on his sleeve and he's shown a big commitment to this football club, nothing ever fazes him.

"There isn't many defenders of his age in this league, I haven't seen any, he's a stopper and it was great he got his goal on Saturday.

"There's work to be done but I definitely would like to see him in a Stafford Rangers shirt next season, there's no doubt about that.

"He's very much a part of our plans."
