Stafford Rangers today faced an anxious wait to discover the extent of the injury to winger Jon Sheldon and his absence for "the forseeable future."
Sheldon was stretchered off and taken to hospital just after the hour in Saturday's 2-1 defeat to Ashton United at Marston Road.
Ligament damage is suspected but cannot be confirmed until the swelling has gone down, with the players yet to see the Rangers medical team.
The 24-year-old has been suffering with a long-standing knee injury all season but his new injury is to his other knee, the right.
It leaves Sheldon facing an extended period on the sidelines and could force manager Greg Clowes into finding a replacement.
Fabrice Kasiama is not yet fit from an ankle problem and leaves Dan Skelton, who replaced Sheldon on Saturday, as the only option.
Clowes was today still in the dark on how long his first-choice left winger will be out for but the Rangers boss fears the worst.
He said: "It's early days but it doesn't look very good news for Jon, he's not going to be available for the forseeable future.
"The physio hasn't seem him yet, he went straight to hospital after the game but the swelling hasn't gone down yet.
"I spoke to him yesterday and he's in agony, he's off work and on crutches. It's a blow for us.
"He was in good form and it's robbed us of another player."
