Stafford Rangers manager Greg Clowes today targeted signing another striker after deciding he will be looking to replace top scorer Neville Thompson.

The Rangers boss currently has three forwards in Chris Morris, Rob Stevenson and Alan Nagington, who are slugging it out to partner Morris.

Stevenson got the nod in the first game without their 11-goal frontman, the 2-0 defeat to Chester last Saturday, but the manager still wants to add.

Clowes retains an interest in former FC United of Manchester striker Ben Deegan, now at New Mills, but could even look to the Football League.

Taking a punt on a striker who is set to be released, or is even fighting for his future at a professional club, would suit his profile for a loan move.

But Clowes is keeping all of his options as he looks for the right man to bring to Marston Road.

He said: "I am after a striker and, ideally, I would like to bring in someone peramently, but not too many clubs are letting players go, at the moment.

"It's something that is right at the top of my agenda, I have got to keep on it and, if something does come up, I am sure we can do something.

"Sometimes when you bring somebody in it's all about timing and nobody's trying harder than me."

Despite resuming his striker search, Clowes insists he still as faith in his current forwards.

The manager has vowed all of his current squad have a first-team future including Stevenson, who has only made one start.

Clowes said: "I am sure Rob Stevenson is worth another shot, as well as the players who are out of the team.

"But they have got to train and show willing, because the squad can change very quickly."
